Summer Try Out Schedule and Overview

The summer try out schedule is now available. The Try-out Schedule can also be found on our home page under Club News or under Youth League Play.

Any Try-out Cancellations will be posted under News on our website.

** Final team lists will be posted within 1 week after the final try-out for each age-group**

General Overview

Dartmouth United Soccer Club try-outs will begin March 22 and continue through until April 19th.  The first week of try-outs will be held inside at shearwater gym and the following try-outs will be held outside at Burnside turf.

Players must try-out in their own age group unless they have permission from the DU technical committee.  Any player who wants to try-out for the age-group above their own must request permission from our technical committee.  Players are only permitted to try-out for the highest tier of an older age group.  For example, U14 players can only try-out for U16 T1, not U16 T2a and U12A players cannot try-out for U14 T1B, they can only try-out for U14 T1A.

Evaluators:

Dartmouth United has posted the try-out schedule, along with scheduled evaluators on the Home Page under Summer Try-outs 2010.  The Evaluation staff for try-outs will include:

• Technical Staff Member: Paid Staff member.  This person runs the on-field try-out to ensure that coaches and assessor can focus on player evaluation.
• Independent Assessor: Paid Staff Member.  One of our Tier 1 Coaches, or Senior A coaches, who is not involved with the age group.  They are there to observe, evaluate players and advise coaches about player selection.
• Team coaches: the coaches for the team that is being picked will be present to observe, evaluate and help make decisions about player selection.

U14 Tier 1 Teams Summer 2010

This summer there will be a U14 Tier 1A team and a U14 Tier 1B Team.  The Tier 1A team will consist of players who the coaches believe can compete at the highest level in their age group. The U14 Tier 1B team is essentially a developmental division, primarily comprised of first year players and these teams will not be eligible for provincials (the NSSL will run a League Championship). However, the flexibility provided with A and B categories will allow clubs to place a maximum of 5 ‘last cut’ second year players on the ‘B’ teams.  This pooling of all 13-14 year olds into one group that are split into A and B teams based on skill level will provide clubs with a greater chance of fielding teams at both levels.

Questions about player selection should be directed towards the Dartmouth United Technical Liason Chris MacDonald at chrisbmacdonald@eastlink.ca.  The Technical Liaison is responsible for addressing parent concerns with the technical staff and relaying any information back to parents.

 Try-out Format

Tier 1 & U12 T2A Tryouts

„« 3 Tryouts
„« All players who register to tryout for tier 1/U12A will be invited to the first two tryouts.
„« The third tryout will be invitation only. The list will be posted on the website 2 days after the second try-out.

Tier 2 A Tryouts

„« 2 Tryouts
„« Players who want to play Tier 2 A will attend these tryouts.  Players who are only interested in playing Tier 2B only are not required to attend this tryout.

Tier 2 B & U12 C Tryouts

„« 2 Tryouts
„« Technical Staff will evaluate players.  Then coaches of these teams (if they are in place) will have a say in the selection of the players they want to have on their teams, as long as they are balanced.

U10 Academy Try-outs

This process will make sure all the players are placed on the appropriate teams; it also gives any players that register late  a chance to try-out for these teams

„« 2 Initial Tryouts
„« All players interested in the U10 Academy team will be invited out to a try-out.
„« All players that are in the “pool of players” that could be selected for the Academy team will be asked to participate in pre-season training once a week for a few weeks (Day and time TBD).
„« Players will be split into groups
„« Each week the players in these groups will be evaluated and players will be shuffled among the groups to reflect where the coaches feel they fit.
„« This will continue for a few weeks (3-4) until the coaches feel like they have all the players placed on the appropriate teams.
